Distribution: from the Gulf of Thailand to South China Sea. Common in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and southern Japan.

Exclusively associated with Entacmaea quadricolor sea anemone.

Often confused with Amphiprion melanopus (distinguished by location and red anal fin) and Amphiprion barberi (distinguished by location and orange-red color).
