Distribution: from Eastern Africa to Southern Japan, Hawaii, Rapa and Lord Howe. Also occurs in Eastern Pacific, from the Gulf of California to Peru, and the Galápagos Islands.
Sometimes confused with bannerfish (Heniochus sp.).
